We had been stuck in a date rut. Each Kid's Night Out we would go eat and then walk around a store or two kinda aimlessly. Our joke is that we would always end up buying Benjamin a pair of pants. 😂 A few months ago I knew Kid's Night Out was coming up and I wanted to break out of our routine. So I gave Benjamin two options: rock climbing or lazer tag. To my surprise he had never been lazer tagging and that right there decided it!
We dropped the kids, grabbed a bite to eat and then headed to Main Event. There we did our best to make Barney Stinson proud running around like crazy people with strangers trying to at least not be the bottom scorers in the lazer tag games we played! 😂
This night reminded me how much I love that Benjamin is willing to go along with my suggestions and keep the fun in our relationship. We got to have conversations without little humans interrupting us and we got to laugh while sneaking up on each other to get the shot!
It's easy to get in a routine of doing the same things over and over. And while routines are good, sometimes need a little shake up! We brainstormed and came up with thirty out of the box date night ideas!
1. Lazer tag
2. Pinball Machines or Arcade: We have a local place called The Game Preserve that has tons of original pinball and video game machines. We haven't yet been, but it is on our list!
3. Gocart racing
4. Shooting range
5. Go to a paint your own pottery place or sign up for a night of fun at a place like Painting with a Twist or Pinot's Palette where they teach you how to paint a specific scene.
6. Bowling
7. Play paintball
8. Do a night of favorites. Perhaps do it with food and traveling style where you do appetizers at one place, dinner at a second place and dessert at a third! Or pop in a favorite movie complete with all your favorite snacks and sweets.
9. Karaoke
10. Attend or host a murder mystery evening
11. Pack a picnic and go to a cool park or swimming pool
12. Make s'mores
13. Do a coffee house tour of the best local coffee joints in your area. Also could do this with pizza, Italian food, wine, etc.
14. Axe throwing
15. Go to a restaurant and talk about the highs and lows of the year, your individual and family goals for the year. It's so important to dream together and communication is key in any relationship. And it's more fun to do it over a delicious piece of dessert!
16. Indoor {or outdoor!} rock climbing
17. Ride bikes or take a walk around the neighborhood
18. Take a class to learn something new: glass making, soap making, candle making, knife making, sushi making.
19. Another twist on favorites night would be to plan a night of all of your favorites to share with him or for him to plan it with his favorites.
20. Go for a drive, explore a new part of town that you may have passed but had never taken the time to stop in.
21. Couples massages
22. Around Christmas, book spots on a Holiday Light Trolley or go through a live Nativity.
23. Clean out your storage unit.
24. Start {and finish} a home improvement project together.
25. Visit IKEA.
26. Hire a photographer to take couples photos at one a favorite spot.
27. Wrap your kiddos Christmas gifts together.
28. Go through old photos. Make and order keepsake books for your coffee table.
29. Visit the zoo
30. Volunteer together.
What is one of your favorite date nights to have with your special someone?
