Project 52: Week 8

Last week was a little hectic as my client was in for the first part of the week and Benjamin was all over Dallas with his dental rotations.  This weekend was Chi Alpha for The Heights and we opened our home to 9th grade boys and two leaders.  Part of this year's activities were held at Group Dynamix rope course and the boys had a fantastic time!

And yes, we had shirts with our name on it and I cannot take credit for them as one of the moms made them for our group.

Until next week,

Project 52: Week 7

As I was saving this week's file, I could not believe that we have already wrapped up Week 7 of this year!  And the more amazing part...I'm still on a roll with Project 52!

Lulu pestering a squirrel who had taken refuge on the top of our fence - this is her favorite spring time activity.  Sweet Loves on Valentine's Day.  Andrew, Conner and I - I folded to peer pressure and started playing SVNGR with them this week.  Benjamin and his Valentine's Day cookie cake from Great American Cookie Company.  We have a few breakable things on our house, so to gear up for packing Benjamin ordered bubble wrap - 700 sq feet of it to be exact!  Double date with Sam and Ben at g'nosh.

Until next week,

Garlic Red Potatoes

I think red potatoes are so cute!  I actually grew up calling them "new potatoes."  I'm not sure why....maybe it's because they are small, round and red like a new baby?...

Anywho.

I picked a bag of them up at Target on a whim and decided I find a new recipe to try out for dinner.  I found one that sounded pretty tasty and would compliment the rest of our dinner.

So without further ado - fabulously tasty Garlic Red Potatoes!

Start with the red potatoes - as many as you think you will eat!  Wash the potatoes.
To cut down on the baking time after preparation, parboil the potatoes for 15-20 minutes.
While your potatoes are boiling, preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
After your potatoes are done, cut into bit sized chunks and put them in your cooking dish.
Next melt 1/2 cup of butter in a bowl.
Add 2-4 teaspoons of garlic salt, 1 teaspoon of salt, and lemon juice.  I didn't have any in the kitchen at the time, so I used lime juice.  I just gave it a few good shakes in the bowl.  Pour the mixture over the potatoes and stir.
Next add grated Parmesan cheese.  As much as you like.  We love cheese.
Then bake for 30 minutes.
I know all of the flavors above sound like it would be awkward tasting, however they all complimented each other well and turned out delish!

Enjoy!

On the Borders....

Yesterday was Valentine's Day.  My sweet husband did not have to go into clinics yesterday so he showed up at work with beautiful purple tulips and whisked me away to Chuy's for lunch.

I love Chuy's.  Their creamy jalapeƱo sauce is addicting.

A week or so ago I noticed that The Pioneer Woman was going to be in Dallas for a book signing event.  On Valentine's Day.

I own her cookbook.
I own her love story.

Benjamin, being a sweet love that he is, offered for us to spend our evening at Borders getting her to sign one of the books.  Sure!  Why not?  It would be an adventure!

After work, he picked me up in Silvy and away we went.  Off to Preston and Royal.  Off to the Borders.  Where upon our arrival there was not a vacant parking spot to be found.

Alls good - I thought.  The parking lot is kinda tiny and Benjamin dropped me off so that I could get in line.

Or get a wrist band.
That was hot pink.
That was the 6th grouping.
Because there were about 300 women in that store.

It's true.  300+ women along with their babies and a few brave husbands.

The lady who handed me my wrist band said, "You may want to go get a pizza...it's going to be about 3 hours."

3 hours?!

Then, around a corner appeared Ree Drummond and she took the podium to address the room.  I have to admit - that was pretty nifty...

We were closer to the Steelers on media day...
Look at all of those women!

Anyway - once the signing started, we weighed our options... stay at Borders for the next 3+ hours or eat some dinner and spend the night at home with Lubaby...

As much as I enjoy reading The Pioneer Woman's blog...
As much as I enjoy trying her recipes...
As funny as I think she is...

My favorite thing in the world is spending time being a little like a hermit with Benjamin and Lulu.
How did you spend your Valentine's Day?

Great State of Texas

Weather in the 70's is a sign to me that Spring is here.  This means sandals and bare feet in the grass.  And that means pedicure time!
Has anyone else seen the new OPI Spring Collection?  I was doing my Sunday coupon clipping and reading of the ads when this caught my eye -
Hello Texas Collection!  Here is a breakdown of the color names.
  • Don’t Mess With OPI - A lean, mean, kick-grass forest green.
  • Austin-Tatious Turquoise – Cowgirls love this bodacious blue-green.
  • It’s Totally Fort-Worth It – A shimmery lavender grey that’s so worthy of you.
  • Do You Think I’m Tex-y? A “berry” sexy bloom of Dallas Dahlia.
  • I Vant To Be A-Lone Star – You won’t want to share this starry Texas-sky blue.
  • Houston We Have A Purple – A galactic red-violet that’s ready to “rocket-roll”!
  • Suzi Loves Cowboys – But she loves this campfire chocolate shade s’more!
  • San Tan-tonio – A “honey” of a ten-gallon tan!
  • Too Hot Pink To Hold ‘Em – A red-hot pink-red that deals a winning hand.
  • Guy Meets Gal-veston – An “engaging” coastal coral.
  • Y’all Come Back Ya Hear? – This Texas tangerine will be waitin’ for ya!
  • Big Hair Big Nails A rosy pageant peach.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Today, much like every day, I get to spend the day with my hubby whom I love immensely.  But more than that, it's a great reminder of the love that my God has for me and for you too, dear friend.

"God remembered us when we were down,
His love never quits.
Rescued us from the trampling boot,
His love never quits.
Takes care of everyone in time of need.
His love never quits.
Thank God, who did it all! His love never quits!"
Psalm 136:22-26

My dear friend, Ms. Lori told me years ago that God gave her hearts in everyday things.  After hearing that, I became more mindful to look for Him in the everyday.  Here's one of those hearts - from me to you!
Happy Valentine's Day sweet friend!

Project 52: Week 6

A full week full of football fun and finally some much needed sunshine!

Lulu loved playing with her yellow ball this week - so much so that she was afraid to put it down for fear that Benjamin would take it.  She did however put it down long enough to sip on my coffee!  And of course, Benjamin and I sporting our Steelers gear.

Until next week,

And the winner is....

First off, a huge thank you to everyone who entered to win this guy:

The fabulous invention of random number generator has selected that #6 be our winner.  Which means nothing to you... so, who is our #6?
Mandie said "I would want the Blue Raspberry Gummy Bear.  These are too cute and just the right amount of whimsy--"

Congratulations to Mandie!  Shoot me an email at joyfullysoaring@gmail.com to claim your prize!

Be sure to stay tuned...next month's give-a-way is already in the works!

Hello Fluffy, Cold Friend!

I get giddy anytime the word "snow" is used in a weather forecast.  I'm not sure what it is about snow, but if you have been a reader long, you will know that I absolutely love it and turn into a 4 year old every time it's on the ground.

The giddiness does not even wear off when I open the garage to check to see if I could get to work and see this:

Not leaving even if I wanted to...

Friday was spent working from home under that warmth of my electric blanket with Luly by my side.  Expect for outside breaks we took to run around and throw snowballs!

I just love this guy!  He puts up with everyone of my wild hairs and childlike tendencies.
And does it with love.
Lots and lots of love.

Sweet girl - She just loves waiting for snowballs to be thrown so she can run and find them.

Big snowy smiles!  Yup, even Luly is smiling!

Lulu just plows through the snow.  The way that she fearlessly runs at full speed towards her destination is admirable and quite humorous!

Apparently there is more snow in our forecast for this week as well.
Here comes the giddy!

No, we aren't giving away massive amounts of gummi bears.  We are actually giving away a MASSIVE gummi bear!

I was browsing through Fred Flare, came across this fabulousness, and thought we just had to do a give-a-way for it!  I mean, it's just too fun for words!
Look at that baby bear!  It's 5" tall by 1.75" of pure gummi goodness!  This little bear packs half a pound of  flavor with many to choose from: cherry, lemon, green apple, blue raspberry, grape, cola, pineapple, orange and pink bubblegum!

This gummi bear is just like the tiny bears, but bigger... 88 times bigger!!

A Not Quite A Super Bowl...

Depending on who you were rooting for in the game, tonight could have been not that super...  Poor Steelers couldn't pull out to win when they needed to.  Not to mention three turn-overs and a weird attempt at a field goal kick from mid-field.

Oh well.  At least the game was interesting and we spent the night with super company!  Thanks to the Assaad's for hosting a spectacular event!

Looking forward to 2012 Super Bowl with the Steelers again!

Project 52: Week 5

What a strange week it's been with all of the crazy cold weather!  Hope your last week was fantastic and here's a the start of a fresh week!

Benjamin and I enjoying a snow day!  Troy Polamalu, of course!  Me just hanging with Flozel.  Big Ben.  BlueBarry and Silvy covered in snow!  Happy Groundhog's Day from me and Lulu!  Lulu loves digging in the snow.  On the Steelers end zone!  Baking some Auntie Anne's pretzels.

Until next week...

Super Bowl Ready?

Earlier this week, despite the treacherous weather we experienced here in Dallas, Benjamin and I drove down to Cowboys Stadium to be volunteers for Gatorade at Media Day!  We set up the media boxes with Gatorade products and walked through the crowds handing out bottles of Gatorade.  The whole day was an neat experience - we were able to stand on the Steeler's side line, see all of the players from both teams and drink all the Gatorade we could!

I get these crazy eyes every time I get overly excited...  case in point...see photo below.  And, no, I don't mean Cookie Monster's Eyes.
Yes, just chilling on the sidelines.  Ya know, just a day in the life of the the Cozads!
Hanging out in front of the entrance where the players will come out.
While the media was interviewing the Greenbay Packers, Benjamin spied Harrison and Farrior from the Steelers encroaching on their turf.
And now for photos of the players that Benjamin was able to take!  We were literally feet from the players and were able to hear all of the interviews.

 Team Photo
Benjamin was able to meet and speak with Sepulveda for a few minutes.  Since he also went to Baylor, it was Benjamin's goal to get a picture with him.

We had a fantastic day at the stadium and it was a true privilege to be a volunteer to help out.  Thanks to Jeremy for telling us about the opportunity.  Should you like to see more photos from our day, please click here.

And a special shout out to BlueBarry who, with the help of Jesus and Benjamin's slow driving, got us to and from our destination on an icy day!
Can't wait until Sunday - bring on the Super Bowl!!

Right now...

I am in my jammies.
I am in Benjamin's study.
I am sitting on his couch.
I am listening to Lulu bark in the living room.
I wonder why she's barking - she was just outside.
I am listening to Benjamin outline the latest category of Name That Tune - Decades Round.
I am totally loving listening to all of my favorite tunes from the 90's and 00's.

Sing it Beyonce'!

Right now I am wondering how Benjamin is going to pry open the car door to get my CD's out.... it's frozen shut.

I love Name That Tune prep-nights!
